Jamie Lloyd’s production of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing has assembled its Broadway company, led by Tom Hiddleston as Benedick and Hayley Atwell as Beatrice.

The strictly limited 10-week engagement will play the Winter Garden Theatre, with previews beginning Saturday, October 31. Opening night is set for Thursday, November 19, and the production will run through Sunday, January 10, 2027.

Atwell will make her Broadway debut in the production. A three-time Olivier Award nominee, Standard Theatre Award winner and Golden Globe Award nominee, she previously appeared in The Jamie Lloyd Company’s Much Ado About Nothing at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. That performance earned her the London Standard Theatre Award for Best Actress and the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Shakespearean Performance.

Hiddleston, an Olivier and Golden Globe winner and Tony Award nominee, also appeared in the Drury Lane production, earning an Olivier nomination for Best Actor. His earlier work with The Jamie Lloyd Company includes Betrayal at the Harold Pinter Theatre and on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, where he received a Tony nomination for leading actor in a play.

The Broadway company

Joining Hiddleston and Atwell are Mara Huf as Hero, Mika Onyx Johnson as Borachio, Gerald Kyd as Don Pedro, Forbes Masson as Leonato, Phillip Olagoke as Friar Francis, Mason Alexander Park as Margaret, James Phoon as Claudio and Tim Steed as Don John.

The newly announced understudy company consists of Franklin Bongjio, Michael Iván Carrier, Beth Elliott, Marlon Alexander Vargas and Ed White.

Much of the principal ensemble already has a connection to The Jamie Lloyd Company. Huf, Masson, Olagoke, Park, Phoon and Steed have credits in both Much Ado About Nothing and The Tempest at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Johnson previously worked with the company on The Seagull and Cyrano de Bergerac, while Kyd’s company credits also include The Seagull and Richard III.

Park was nominated for the 2026 Ian Charleson Award and a 2026 WhatsOnStage Award for Best Supporting Performer in a Play for their work in Much Ado About Nothing. Their other stage credits include Oh, Mary!, Cabaret and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, while their television work includes Quantum Leap, The Sandman, Cowboy Bebop and iCarly.

Phoon’s credits include Stage Kiss, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Underdog: The Other Other Bronte, along with television appearances in Bridgerton and Wreck. Steed’s stage résumé includes Jack Absolute Flies Again, Ink, The Pride and Salome; his screen credits include One Life, Cruella, The Death of Stalin, Breeders and The Crown.

Among the understudies, White previously appeared in The Jamie Lloyd Company’s Drury Lane production of Much Ado About Nothing. Elliott also worked on that staging, while Bongjio’s company credits include A Doll’s House and Waiting for Godot at the Hudson. Carrier has appeared in & Juliet in New York and Toronto, and Vargas’s credits include Littleboy/Littleman and Camino Real.

The team behind the production

Soutra Gilmour is handling scenic and costume design, with Jon Clark overseeing lighting. Ben and Max Ringham are the sound designers and composers, and Fabian Aloise is the choreographer.

The wider team includes casting director Stuart Burt and U.S. casting directors Jim Carnahan and Alexandre Bleau. Carole Hancock is responsible for hair, wigs and make-up, Kate Waters serves as fight director, Ingrid Mackinnon is the U.K. intimacy coordinator and Ann James is the U.S. intimacy coordinator. Johnny Milani is production stage manager.

Jon Glew serves as U.K. associate director and text editor, while Conner Wilson is U.S. associate director. Charlie Martin is associate choreographer, Huw Evans and Adam Rothenberg are the U.K. and U.S. music supervisors respectively, Veronica Lee is stage manager and Tyler Siems is company manager.

The Broadway production is produced by The Jamie Lloyd Company. 101 Productions, Ltd./Jeff Klein will serve as general managers.

ShowBiz Take

The Broadway engagement places an already recognized Benedick-and-Beatrice pairing at the heart of a tightly scheduled run. Hiddleston received an Olivier nomination for the Drury Lane production, while Atwell collected two major theater honors for her performance. Broadway audiences will now see that partnership at the Winter Garden, with Atwell reaching an additional career milestone through her debut.

The ensemble’s extensive history with The Jamie Lloyd Company is equally notable. Multiple cast members arrive having worked together on Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest or other company productions, giving this limited engagement a company-driven identity beyond its two headliners.

What Happens Next?

Preview performances begin October 31 before the official November 19 opening. With the engagement scheduled to end January 10, 2027, the announced Broadway run is limited to 10 weeks.
