Jennifer Nettles, Carter Faith, Carly Pearce and Margo Price are helping bring the country-music world of Heartland to life on a new soundtrack tied to the upcoming Netflix original film starring Jessica Chastain.
The 15-track collection will be released Nov. 13 through Netflix Music, arriving the same day as the Shana Feste-directed movie. Chastain, Nettles and Faith are among the performers whose work crosses from the screen to the soundtrack, while the wider musical lineup includes Ross Lynch, Heart Sisters, singer-songwriter Trannie Anderson and several other artists.
Chastain stars as a singer confronting her past
In Heartland, Chastain plays Misty Jones, a retired country singer investigating the disappearance of her niece, portrayed by Faith. The search forces Misty to face both her personal history and an unscrupulous music industry.
Nettles appears as fellow country singer Winnie Jo Lean. Garrett Hedlund and Wynn Everette are also part of the cast, although additional details about their characters were not included in the film information.
The soundtrack places Chastain at the center of several recordings. She performs the title song, “Heartland,” with Nettles as a featured artist, and also sings “Family Ties.” Chastain and John Hawkes team up for the closing track, “Shouldn’t Have Called.”
Nettles contributes a solo performance of “You’re Gonna Burn For That” in addition to her appearance on the title track. Faith performs “Still the Sparrow Sings” and joins Anderson on “Honeycomb.” Pearce delivers “Ready & Waiting,” while Price appears with Hawkes on “Too Late For Coffee, Too Early for Beer.”
Other songs feature Lynch, Channing Wilson, Jace Jacobs, Charlie Heart, Eddy Dunlap, Heart Sisters and David “Fergie” Ferguson.
Country music returns to Chastain’s screen work
Heartland is not Chastain’s first project built around a country singer. She previously portrayed Tammy Wynette in the 2022 Showtime miniseries George & Tammy. That performance earned her the Actor Award — then known as a SAG Award — for outstanding female actor in a miniseries or television movie.
Nettles, known for her solo music and her work as part of Sugarland, also brings previous acting experience to the film. Her earlier screen roles include appearances in Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones, Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors and Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.
