Warner Bros. has moved two major features into fall 2028, setting new dates for the DC project Dynamic Duo and Chris Columbus’ still-untitled Gremlins movie.
Dynamic Duo, a puppet-and-animation feature centered on the early days of DC’s Robins, will now arrive on Sept. 22, 2028. It had previously been scheduled for June 30, 2028.
The untitled Gremlins film is making a larger calendar jump, moving from Nov. 19, 2027, to Oct. 6, 2028. The release-date changes are unrelated to Warner Bros.’ pending marriage with Paramount.
Warner Bros. sees a back-to-school opportunity
Warner Bros. distribution believes the Sept. 22 date gives Dynamic Duo a strong back-to-school animated-feature slot. The intended reach extends beyond K-12 students to teenagers and college audiences, with the movie also seen as having the potential to connect with the Spider-Verse crowd.
The move also takes Dynamic Duo away from Paramount’s planned Call of Duty feature, which remains set for June 30, 2028. Paramount currently has no movie scheduled for Sept. 22, 2028.
The new date gives audiences additional time before the first joint project from DC Studios and the Bill Damaschke-led WBPA reaches screens.
Dynamic Duo is a 6th & Idaho production written by Matthew Aldrich. The story follows the early years of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, both known as the Robins.
The movie is being made by Swaybox, a new animation studio based in New Orleans and created by husband-and-wife team Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson. Mintz is directing the feature.
The announced voice cast includes Mason Thames as Dick Grayson and Logan Kim as Jason Todd. Lee Pace will voice Red Hood One, while Steve Buscemi will play Red Hood 2.
Gremlins heads to October 2028
Columbus’ untitled Gremlins project will now open during the first weekend of October 2028. Warner Bros. has previously found success in that early-October corridor with Joker.
The film was not facing a Paramount release on its former Nov. 19, 2027, date, and there is also no Paramount movie scheduled against it on Oct. 6, 2028.
While both Warner Bros. titles now sit in the same broad fall 2028 window, their positioning reflects different calendar considerations. Dynamic Duo has been placed in a slot Warner Bros. believes can draw a wide student audience, while Gremlins shifts to a weekend where the studio has previously performed well.
What Happens Next?
Under the revised schedule, Dynamic Duo is set to arrive first on Sept. 22, 2028, followed two weeks later by the untitled Gremlins movie on Oct. 6, 2028. Paramount’s Call of Duty feature remains dated for Dynamic Duo’s former June 30, 2028, slot.
