Anne Hathaway is a paying her respects to the OG queen of maternity dressing.
The star, who has been busy promoting her fifth (and final!) film of the year, took a moment to reflect on her Verity press tour style—and all the fabulous maternity looks she’s been bringing to red carpets and premieres all summer long. And in addition to crediting stylist Erin Walsh, she gave a sweet shoutout to the one and only Rihanna.

“I think that we have Rihanna to thank,” Hathaway said, speaking with Gayle King on CBS Mornings. “She changed the game! And when I saw her, what she was doing with her maternity style, I just realized that I just needed to use my imagination and go out there and have more fun.”

Since announcing her pregnancy back in June, the actor has been on back-to-back press tours, promoting The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street, and now Verity. Throughout, she has been seen in flowy two-piece sets, sheer baby bump-accentuating dresses, and, most recently, a glistening custom Prabal Gurung gown—all of which took a page out of Rihanna’s playful pregnancy book.
The Fenty founder, who starred alongside Hathaway in 2018’s Ocean’s 8, has long pioneered an alternative to traditional maternity dressing—dressing for the bump, as opposed to concealing it. (Who could forget her first pregnancy announcement, in which she bared her bump under a hot-pink Chanel coat, or her second, revealed during the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show?)
“[Pregnancy’s] a long nine to 10 months. You have to enjoy it,” Rihanna told Entertainment Tonight in 2022, while expecting her first child with A$AP Rocky. “Fashion is one of my favorite things, so, you know, we’re defying what it even means to be pregnant and maternal. It can get uncomfortable at times and so you can dress the part and pretend.”
