“Mayor of Kingstown” is expanding beyond its original streaming home, with all four available seasons of Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon’s crime thriller arriving on Netflix on October 5, 2026.

The move gives viewers without Paramount+ access to the complete story so far ahead of the show’s fifth and final season. No premiere date for that concluding season has been announced in the supplied information.

“Mayor of Kingstown” initially premiered on Paramount+ in November 2021. Its arrival on Netflix adds another Sheridan series to the options for audiences interested in his television work, which also includes “Yellowstone” and “Landman.”

Jeremy Renner leads Kingstown’s power struggle

Co-created by Sheridan and Dillon, the series takes place in the fictional Kingstown, Michigan. The drama follows a family of mediators attempting to manage an uneasy balance among street gangs, police officers, attorneys and prison wardens.

Jeremy Renner stars as Mike McLusky, who carries the unofficial title of Kingstown’s “Mayor.” Mike is not an elected official; the name belongs to the person leading his family’s mediation operation. Across the first four seasons, he reluctantly assumes that responsibility and tries to control the town’s competing factions while also dealing with turmoil inside his own family.

The role marked the first time in Renner’s career that he led a television series lasting longer than one season.

Renner is joined by Edie Falco, Lennie James and Kyle Chandler. Dillon also appears in the series, playing a police officer who operates outside the law alongside Mike’s brother as they pursue criminals and try to preserve peace in Kingstown.

The story has roots in Hugh Dillon’s hometown

Although “Mayor of Kingstown” did not debut until 2021, Dillon and Sheridan had developed the idea years earlier. Dillon, who comes from Kingston, Ontario, connected the premise to his own upbringing in a community with nine penitentiaries.

“I grew up in a prison town that had nine penitentiaries,” Dillon said in 2023. “So when Taylor dove into it, he’d ask questions. He’s a very curious person, and he’s always interested in the truth and the facts.”

Dillon also described “Mayor of Kingstown” as the first project Sheridan wrote and said that Renner and Dianne Wiest had long been their preferred choices.

“[Mayor of Kingstown] was the first thing Taylor wrote, so it was always in his pocket,” Dillon said. “And we were always like, ‘[Jeremy] Renner is the guy and Dianne Wiest …’ So they were always our first choices.”

Sheridan had previously served as Dillon’s acting coach, and the two later became close friends as Sheridan advanced in screenwriting and directing. Their professional paths converged again on the 2017 film “Wind River,” which Sheridan directed and which starred Renner and featured Dillon. The three then began working together on “Mayor of Kingstown.”

A gradual critical turnaround

The drama has continued for more than five years, though its reception shifted over that run. Critics panned its first two seasons, while Seasons 3 and 4 drew more favorable notices from a smaller number of reviewers.

Season 4 reached a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, but that rating was based on only five reviews. Despite the improvement, “Mayor of Kingstown” has not won any major awards. Sheridan’s television projects more broadly have also struggled to gain consistent support from critics and awards organizations.

What Happens Next?

Netflix subscribers can now stream Seasons 1 through 4, covering Mike McLusky’s story to date. The remaining confirmed development is the fifth and final season, which will bring the series to an end after its newly expanded streaming run introduces the Kingstown conflict to viewers beyond Paramount+.
