Daisy Ridley, Sosie Bacon and Simon Rex are set to star in “Get Rid of It,” a new road-trip horror feature scheduled to begin shooting at the start of 2027.
Ry Russo-Young will direct from a screenplay by Gemma Holdway. Upgrade, CAA Media Finance and Range Select are launching the project at the American Film Market and handling sales.
The story casts Ridley and Bacon as sisters Harper and Jessie. After Harper learns that she is pregnant following a one-night stand with a mysterious drifter named Miller, played by Rex, the sisters set out on a cross-country road trip.
That journey quickly becomes a fight for survival when they begin to suspect that whatever is growing inside Harper may not be human. The premise brings the sisters’ relationship together with a supernatural threat, placing the emotional stakes of their trip at the center of the horror.
“Propulsive and playful, this project’s strength is its compelling point of view and heart beneath the horror,” Russo-Young said. “I’m thrilled to bring it to life with such an extraordinary and gifted group of collaborators.”
Filmmakers and Cast
Independent film producer David Lancaster is producing “Get Rid of It.” Lancaster received a best picture Oscar nomination for “Whiplash,” while his other producing credits include “Nightcrawler” and “Drive.”
Russo-Young’s previous directing work spans film and television. Her credits include the science-fiction teen thriller “Before I Fall,” starring Zoey Deutch, and the coming-of-age drama “The Sun is Also a Star,” featuring Charles Melton. She has also directed episodes of the Apple TV+ series “Shrinking,” headlined by Harrison Ford and Jason Segel.
Ridley will also appear opposite Johnny Depp in Ti West’s upcoming film “Ebenezer.” Her previous projects include Zak Hilditch’s “We Bury the Dead,” Joachim Ronning’s “Young Woman and the Sea” and the role of Rey in the most recent “Star Wars” trilogy.
Bacon is currently starring with Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in Elizabeth Sarnoff’s series “Scarpetta.” She recently appeared in the SXSW breakout “Family Movie” alongside her parents, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, and her brother, Travis Bacon. Her credits also include Parker Finn’s horror hit “Smile” and Brad Ingelsby’s detective drama “Mare of Easttown.”
Rex, meanwhile, is known for his acclaimed performance in Sean Baker’s “Red Rocket.” His recent work includes Nic Pizzolatto’s “Easy’s Waltz” and Zoë Kravitz’s “Blink Twice.”
ShowBiz Take
“Get Rid of It” arrives with a clear dramatic engine: two sisters crossing the country while confronting a pregnancy that may conceal something inhuman. That setup gives the project room to combine survival horror with a character-driven story, reflecting Russo-Young’s description of a film with “heart beneath the horror.”
The cast also brings together performers with relevant experience across horror, drama and high-profile franchise filmmaking. Bacon’s work in “Smile,” Ridley’s varied film roles and Rex’s acclaimed turn in “Red Rocket” give the project a trio capable of carrying both its unsettling premise and its relationship-focused stakes.
Its American Film Market launch is the next major step for the feature, with Upgrade, CAA Media Finance and Range Select overseeing sales ahead of the planned production start.
