Cooper Tomlinson has joined the mystery-thriller Seeker, taking the lead role opposite Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe and Off Campus breakout Mika Abdalla.

The casting gives Tomlinson his next feature following Blumhouse and Focus Features’ Obsession. Adam Rehmeier, whose credits include Carolina Caroline, is directing from an original screenplay by Michael Learner.

Tomlinson will play Grant, a man still struggling with the unexplained disappearance of his fiancée, Caroline, portrayed by Abdalla, five years earlier. Grant is now working as a ride-share driver when he picks up a passenger he becomes convinced was responsible for Caroline’s disappearance.

That encounter begins as a high-pressure pursuit between the two characters before the story moves into increasingly strange and disturbing territory, putting Grant’s understanding of events into question. Rothe is also attached to the cast, though no character details were disclosed.

A Fully Financed Thriller Headed to AFM

Production is being lined up to begin in Washington State in January 2027, with further casting underway. Seeker is fully financed by Hammerstone Studios and Script 2 Screen.

The project is also heading into the sales market at AFM. North.five.six. is handling international distribution rights, while CAA Media Finance represents the film’s U.S. rights.

Alex Lebovici and Learner will produce for Hammerstone Studios, alongside Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for HyperObject Industries and Noah Centineo and Enzo Marc for Arkhum Productions.

Samuel Hall and Warren Goz of north.five.six. are executive producing with Ibrahim Mohammed, Yasmyne Mohammed and Chase Vergari.

Rehmeier said Learner’s screenplay immediately won him over with its combination of darkness, comedy and terror.

“I was all-in the moment I finished reading Michael’s script – it’s dark, twisted, funny, terrifying; a perfect mash-up of genres I haven’t tackled yet,” the director said. He added that he was eager to work with his regular collaborators and the producing teams at Hammerstone Studios, HyperObject Industries and Arkhum Productions.

Lebovici praised Learner’s work and said the combination of Rehmeier and the attached cast had added to his enthusiasm for the film. McKay similarly said Seeker stood out among the many scripts read by HyperObject, describing the team’s response as that of excited “16-year-old film nerds.”

The Cast’s Upcoming Projects

Seeker arrives amid a busy run of projects for all three attached performers. Tomlinson is also set to star in Anything But Ghosts, which he co-wrote with longtime collaborator Curry Barker.

The film comes from Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Spooky Pictures and Focus. Barker is directing and will appear alongside Tomlinson, Bryce Dallas Howard and Aaron Paul. Anything But Ghosts is scheduled for release in May 2027.

Rothe will next be seen opposite Jane Levy in River, the Universal Pictures and Blumhouse title acquired at TIFF. The film is due to open in theaters on January 15, 2027. Rothe is also known for leading Universal and Blumhouse’s Happy Death Day horror franchise.

Abdalla’s recent credits include Prime Video’s Off Campus, which premiered in May and reached more than 36 million viewers during its first 12 days. The series, adapted from Elle Kennedy’s bestselling books, ranked among Amazon Prime Video’s most-watched series debuts. Abdalla returns as the lead for Season 2, which has completed production.

She previously played the female lead in the comedy Snack Shack, a project from Rehmeier and Rian Johnson’s T-Street.

ShowBiz Take

Seeker is moving beyond an early-stage package with several key pieces already secured: its three announced cast members, director, financing, rights representatives and a planned January 2027 production start.

The premise also gives Tomlinson a central dramatic role built around grief, suspicion and an increasingly unstable mystery, while reuniting Rehmeier with Abdalla after Snack Shack. With the film now set for AFM and additional casting in progress, the next major developments will be its remaining cast and distribution deals.

What Happens Next?

International and U.S. rights are being represented separately as Seeker enters the market. If the current schedule holds, cameras will roll in Washington State in January 2027, with more casting announcements expected as production approaches.
