Netflix has unveiled the trailer for “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth,” bringing Brad Pitt back to the Oscar-winning role he originated in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

Directed by David Fincher, the sequel will open in Imax theaters on Nov. 25 before arriving on Netflix on Dec. 23. The film was shot on location in Los Angeles, with Erik Messerschmidt serving as director of photography.
The story picks up eight years after “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” shifting the action to 1977. Pitt’s Cliff Booth is no longer working primarily as a stuntman; he has instead become a “studio fixer” operating in what Netflix described in its trailer announcement as “a very different Hollywood.”
The footage begins with Booth creating chaos at the Beverly Cinema, the theater Tarantino has owned since 2007. From there, the trailer moves through mud-wrestling, murder and car chases as Booth navigates his new line of work.
One exchange also addresses Booth’s history with actor Rick Dalton. Elizabeth Debicki’s character asks, “You worked with Rick Dalton for a number of years. What brought an end to your engagement?”
Booth answers: “Oh, Rick got too fat for me to double him anymore.”
Leonardo DiCaprio is not set to return as Dalton. Timothy Olyphant, however, will reprise his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” role as James Stacy. Debicki is among the actors playing new characters, alongside Scott Caan, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany and JB Tadena.
Tarantino Hands the Director’s Chair to Fincher
Although Tarantino is not directing the sequel, he remains closely involved as a producer. He is producing alongside Pitt, David Heyman, Ceán Chaffin and Stacey Sher.
Tarantino discussed his decision not to direct “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” during an August 2025 appearance on “The Church of Tarantino” podcast. He said returning to this material did not offer the creative uncertainty he wants for his next feature.
“I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked,” Tarantino said. “It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.”
The filmmaker has said that his 10th feature will be his last. “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” was his ninth feature film.
While Tarantino chose not to return as director, he expressed enthusiasm about Fincher taking on the project and adapting his work.
“I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors,” Tarantino said on the podcast. “So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account.”

“The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” will first receive an Imax theatrical premiere on Nov. 25. Its streaming debut will follow on Netflix on Dec. 23, giving Pitt’s former stuntman a new chapter under Fincher’s direction.
