Christopher Abbott is ready to enter the world of Marvel Studios’ X-Men — even if the details of his Professor X debut remain a mystery to him.
Abbott, whose casting as Charles Xavier was announced in August, said he has yet to see any material for the superhero movie. That has not dampened his enthusiasm for working with director Jake Schreier or joining the film’s ensemble.
“I haven’t read anything yet. Nothing,” Abbott said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I’m not even being coy. It’s true, I haven’t read anything.”
Despite being kept out of the story loop for now, the actor said he is “very much” looking forward to the project.
“But I’m excited to work with Jake Schreier, I think he’s a great director, and that cast is really good,” he added. “I can’t wait. I love X-Men.”
A New Professor X and a Full Mutant Ensemble
Abbott will take over the role of Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X, following Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy. His casting places him at the center of Marvel Studios’ latest theatrical take on the X-Men.
He will be joined by Adam Driver as Nathaniel Millbury, better known as Mister Sinister. The cast also includes Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Kit Connor as Cyclops and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey.
Samara Weaving is set to play Emma Frost, while Asa Germann will portray Angel. Abbott’s praise for the cast comes even as he waits to discover how Professor X and the other characters will figure into the movie’s story.
His comments make clear that there is no hidden tease behind his silence about the plot: Abbott says he simply has not read anything yet. For the moment, his anticipation is centered on Schreier, his new co-stars and his affection for the X-Men.
Jake Schreier Leads the Marvel Project
Marvel tapped Schreier to direct X-Men last May, after the premiere of his previous MCU title, Thunderbolts*.
The screenplay is being written by Lee Sung Jin, creator of Beef, and Joanna Calo, showrunner of The Bear. Abbott did not reveal when he expects to receive their script or begin work on the movie.
The film is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 5, 2028.
What Happens Next?
With its director, writers, principal mutant lineup and theatrical date confirmed, X-Men has several major pieces in place. Abbott, however, is still waiting for his first look at what this version of Professor X will involve.
Until then, the actor is offering no invented clues and no coy hints — only a straightforward admission that he remains in the dark and cannot wait to get started.
