Warner Chappell Music co-chair and chief operating officer Carianne Marshall will leave her role at the end of the month, closing out a seven-year leadership run at the music publisher.
The company announced the change Monday. Guy Moot, Warner Chappell’s CEO and Marshall’s fellow co-chair, will become the publisher’s sole chairman following her departure from the post.
Marshall will remain with Warner Chappell through the end of the calendar year to help oversee the transition, according to the company.
“When Guy and I began this journey together, we wanted to build a songwriter-first home for the creative community,” Marshall said in a statement. “Reflecting on our time, I am proudest not only of our growth, but of the incredible culture and values we’ve fostered together.”
She added: “I step away with immense gratitude for Len, Robert, Guy, the WMG Board, and our entire Warner Chappell team knowing that the company has never been better positioned for what’s next.”
A seven-year Warner Chappell tenure
Marshall joined Warner Chappell in 2018 after earlier tenures at SONGS Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing Group. Her exit marks a significant leadership change for the company, where she and Moot have worked together at the top of the organization for the past seven years.
Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl credited Marshall with playing a central part in Warner Chappell’s development and performance.
“She’s helped drive exceptional results that have set our songwriters and our business up for long-lasting success,” Kyncl said Monday. “Our talented team will build upon the incredible foundation she’s put in place. We thank her for her dedication, impact and wish her the very best in her next chapter.”
Moot also praised Marshall’s work on behalf of the publisher’s songwriters and employees, as well as her role in shaping the company’s operations and global team.
“Carianne has been an extraordinary partner and a fierce champion for our songwriters and our people over the past seven years,” Moot said. “Her vision, heart and drive helped us establish an operating foundation that sets Warner Chappell apart and shaped a winning global team. What Happens Next?
Marshall will relinquish her co-chair and chief operating officer responsibilities at the end of the month but will continue assisting Warner Chappell through the end of the year. Moot will move forward as the music publisher’s sole chairman while continuing to serve as CEO.
