First came the Symmetry, then Slim Symmetry Pochette. A chain version of the clutch followed, and more recently, a trapezoidal top-handle aptly named the Symmetry Trapeze. Savette’s signature design has lived a thousand lives, and now, it’s being reimagined once more as the Soft Symmetry. Vogue Shopping readers get first access to shop the style a day before it launches on August 18.
In a Zoom interview, founder Amy Zurek elaborates on this latest chapter of the Symmetry’s visual language, describing it as “a softer, more relaxed expression that we’ve established across the brand.” Whereas the original styles are defined by their clean geometry and rigorous proportions, with the Soft Symmetry, Zurek says she was “interested in loosening the structure, while maintaining the clarity of the design.”
Though Savette’s accessory business has evolved plenty since its early days in 2021, the brand arguably remains best known for its petite pochettes. “So many of our bags are structured and on the smaller side because that’s how I carry belongings myself,” explains Zurek. With the Soft Symmetry, she sought to reinterpret the archetype and offer women who carry more than just the bare minimum an option comparable in design but with ample capacity to address the needs of the day. The result is a style that moves effortlessly from morning to night, through work and any commitments after. “It’s not a single event bag,” she adds.
In addition to softening the shape, Zurek also explored new types of leathers and finishes. The Soft Symmetry is crafted in both a smooth calf leather, with a gleaming gold lock closure, and a vintage leather, with accompanying matte silver hardware that gives it an intentionally patinaed look and slouchy feel. It’s these considered touches—from the materiality to the carefully chosen color palette of black, cognac, and coffee brown—that Zurek finds herself most excited about.
