The Walsh Sisters is officially heading back into the family fray.
RTÉ has greenlit a second season of the comedy-drama based on Marian Keyes’ novels, with the BBC again set to show the series in the UK. The new season will also stream on Stan in Australia.
Cameras are now rolling on Season 2, which will return to the lives of the five Walsh sisters and the chaos surrounding their Dublin family. The series comes back after a first season that was well received for bringing Keyes’ book series to television with a mix of comedy and serious drama centered on a chaotic, dysfunctional and lovable family.
Returning Cast And New Faces
Caroline Menton, Danielle Galligan, Máiréad Tyers, Stefanie Preissner and Louisa Harland are reprising their roles as the five sisters. Preissner, who also stars in the series, continues to adapt Keyes’ books for television.
Aidan Quinn and Carrie Crowley are also returning as the sisters’ parents.
Season 2 is adding several new cast members: Peter Coonan, Aislín McGuckin, Art Campion and Fay Ripley. Coonan’s credits include Bad Sisters, McGuckin appeared in Normal People, Campion in Blue Lights and Ripley in Cold Feet.
What Season 2 Will Explore
The next chapter will pick up with each of the sisters facing a new set of personal complications. Rachel will move beyond the family bubble as she navigates recovery on her own terms. Claire will push back against traditional expectations placed on her as a mother. Maggie’s attempt to create the perfect family will take an unexpected turn.
Helen, meanwhile, becomes overprotective of her sisters while also dealing with her own emotional wellbeing. Anna will try unusual methods as she attempts to get over heartbreak.
Amid the sisters’ struggles, Daddy Walsh remains unaware of the drama happening around him. His attention is instead fixed on trying to land a role in the local amateur dramatic musical.
The series is produced by Cuba Pictures, now part of Vice Studios, alongside Metropolitan Pictures. Cineflix Rights is distributing the series and handling global sales.

The new scripts are fantastic, and we can’t wait for audiences to see Season 2 of this great Irish drama.”

With Season 2 now in production, The Walsh Sisters is set to bring its blend of family turmoil, affection and sharp comedy back to RTÉ, the BBC and Stan.
