Secuoya Studios has named Carla Gómez its head of development and executive producer for Latin America, adding an experienced television and streaming executive as the Spanish studio expands its creative and production operations across the region.

Gómez will oversee original projects throughout the development process, taking them from their earliest concepts into production. She is also bringing a catalogue of intellectual property and projects developed through Cielito Studio, her boutique development company.

The appointment gives Gómez a central role in a Latin American operation that Secuoya has been positioning for greater independence. In April, the studio announced that its regional business would receive increased autonomy over development, production and greenlight decisions, with Mexico, Colombia and the U.S. Hispanic market among its targets.

Daniel Hernández Bocanegra leads the operation as managing director of Secuoya Studios in Latin America. Pierluigi Gazzolo serves as a strategic adviser through Farniente Media.

“Carla Gómez’s arrival marks an important step in the continued strengthening of both our team and our strategy in Latin America,” Hernández Bocanegra said. “We share the same commitment to working closely with local talent and stories to develop distinctive content capable of connecting with international audiences.”

A development résumé spanning major platforms

Gómez arrives with more than two decades of experience in television and streaming. Her career has included work with content teams at ViX, HBO and Viacom, as well as producing for NBCUniversal. Most recently, she worked as a development consultant for Netflix in Colombia.

Her executive credits encompass several ViX productions, including “Isla Brava,” “El Gallo de Oro,” “La Mujer del Diablo” and “María Félix: La Doña.” She also has credits on HBO Latin America’s “Sierra Madre” and Nickelodeon’s “Grachi,” along with its U.S. adaptation, “Every Witch Way.”

In outlining her approach to the new position, Gómez emphasized programming rooted in the markets and communities Secuoya is pursuing.

“I strongly believe in the ‘local for local’ vision: content created within the region, for our audiences and their cultures,” Gómez said.

Secuoya builds on regional momentum

The hire comes as Secuoya’s Latin American production strategy is already delivering projects with an international reach. “La Celda de los Milagros” topped Netflix’s global rankings for non-English-language films during the week of Feb. 16-22.

According to Netflix, the film generated 21 million worldwide views during the first half of 2026. That performance provides a notable benchmark for Secuoya as the studio strengthens a regional structure designed to make key creative and production decisions with greater autonomy.

The company also has further Latin American projects moving forward. Its slate includes the upcoming “Belleza,” produced with BH5 for Miércoles Entertainment.

Another forthcoming title, “La Corona,” is being developed as a collaboration involving Secuoya, Black Sheep Productions, Startling, Infinity Hill and Runaway Films.

What Happens Next?

Gómez will now guide Secuoya’s original Latin American projects from development into production while contributing the intellectual property and projects created through Cielito Studio. Her arrival places a veteran development executive inside a regional operation empowered to make more of its own decisions as Secuoya continues targeting Mexico, Colombia and the U.S. Hispanic market.

With “Belleza” and “La Corona” on the upcoming slate and “La Celda de los Milagros” having already delivered significant worldwide viewing, the next phase will center on how Gómez and Secuoya translate the studio’s “local for local” strategy into new productions for audiences in the region and beyond.
