Balletcore has been all the rage for quite some time now, but pop artists are taking this trend to a whole new extreme. In the music video for her new single, “stupid song,” Olivia Rodrigo marches through the streets of New York City surrounded by a troupe of ballet dancers dressed in literal pointe shoes and pink tutus. A few weeks prior, as rising pop star Adéla opened for Demi Lovato’s concert, she used only a ballet barre as her set, cycling through battements and pliés with ease (she was trained as a classical ballerina, after all). Now, Rosalía—who has long had her finger on the pulse of this movement—is giving the timeless art form a grungy spin.

Yesterday afternoon, before she took the stage for the first of her two sold-out Lux Tour shows in Madison Square Garden, the Spanish superstar was seen hitting the streets of the Big Apple in a sexy twist on the ballerina’s uniform.

Rosalía is seen in New York City on June 16.

With this look, Rosalía turned to London-based, under-the-radar designer Yasmina Atta, who creates surrealist, sculptural pieces inspired by her Nigerian heritage, and who previously provided the singer with a wool graphite minidress back in March.

The custom dress featured a caramel latex bodice with a plunging neckline, underneath of which sat a black lace bra with a baby-blue bow in the center. The dramatically low drop waist was accessorized with a stack of belts, one white and one with silver pyramid studs, before it transformed into a pointy, pleated, cream tutu.

To complete her look, the “Berghain” singer slipped into a pair of inky platform heels, while her hair was styled in a wet look, with messy, crimped waves that dangled in front of her face.

Rosalía isn’t only bringing balletcore to the streets, though. A number of the ensembles in her Lux Tour incorporate tutus, bodysuits, and tulle. During one song, she even dances en pointe. And for the North American leg, she’s teamed up with Jonathan Anderson at Dior to unveil even more artful ensembles.

Rosalía has always been a master at mixing the old with the new.
