Robert Pattinson says “The Batman: Part II” will take Bruce Wayne in a strikingly different direction while retaining some of the atmosphere established by its predecessor.

Discussing Matt Reeves’ sequel in a recent interview with Collider, Pattinson described the new film as both highly ambitious and an unexpected departure from 2022’s “The Batman.”

“It’s so ambitious,” Pattinson said. “I mean, I sort of said the other day on something that the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another.”

He added: “It’s a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it. But it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.”

Pattinson did not reveal what that “left turn” involves, and plot details for the sequel remain under wraps. His comments nevertheless indicate that Reeves’ follow-up will not simply repeat the approach of the first movie, which introduced Pattinson as Bruce Wayne.

A New Cast Joins Pattinson

“The Batman: Part II” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Feb. 18, 2028. Reeves returns for the follow-up, which will add several notable names alongside Pattinson.

Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are set to star in the film, while Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch are among its supporting cast members. No character information for those additions was disclosed in the source material.

The sequel was announced in 2022, one month after “The Batman” made its theatrical debut. Reeves completed the script in June 2025. By the time the second film reaches theaters, six years will have passed since audiences first saw Pattinson’s version of Bruce Wayne.

James Gunn Addressed the Long Wait

DC Studios co-chief James Gunn previously responded to discussion surrounding the sequel’s release delays, arguing that extended waits between major films are not unusual.

“To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,” Gunn wrote on Threads.

He then pointed to several examples of lengthy intervals between films, citing seven years between “Alien” and “Aliens,” 14 years between “Incredibles,” seven years between the first two “Terminators,” 13 years between “Avatars” and 36 years between “Top Guns.” Gunn also noted the six-year gap between “Guardians Vol 2” and “Vol 3.”

What Happens Next?

With the screenplay completed and the principal cast taking shape, “The Batman: Part II” remains set for its Feb. 18, 2028 theatrical release. Exactly how the story delivers the “real left turn” Pattinson teased remains unanswered, as its plot is still being kept secret.
