2 min readThe 2026 World Cup ended with a bang yesterday as Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. For the big day, the stands were not only filled with super-fans, but also with a sea of stars—from Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet to Beyoncé and Jay Z, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, and Justin and Hailey Bieber—and world leaders.
Because the football tournament was co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States, the top heads of government from those countries were in attendance: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and U.S. President Donald Trump. And in addition, to support Spain, the country’s royal family and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez made the trip.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia brought along their daughters, Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and Infanta Sofía. The royals did not wear football jerseys, but they did represent Spain in coordinating red ensembles.
Letizia was lovely in a red midi dress from Spanish designer Adolfo Domínguez. It had breezy sleeves and an A-line skirt with a front slit. Ever the footwear expert, she styled the dress with pointy red slingbacks.
Leonor opted for sleek red trousers, which she paired with a white asymmetric top and nude heels. And Sofía did the opposite, wearing a flowy red button-down with off-white wide-leg pants. Even the king added a pop of red to his classic navy suit look via a bright red tie.
The family joined the players on the field for the award ceremony after the match, and even took turns holding the trophy and posing for photos with the team.
(Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, reportedly skipped the match due to a long-running Argentine superstition that says politicians traveling to games only bring bad luck to their team.)
