From Dorothy Gale’s dress in The Wizard of Oz to Princess Diana’s iconic pink pants, gingham has been an enduring fashion pattern for decades, and it appears not even Princess Catherine can resist its charm.

This afternoon, the Princess of Wales was spotted at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor, where she stepped out to support her husband, Prince William, as he competed in the 2026 Royal Charity Polo Cup. This marks his 15th time taking part in the annual event, which raises money for a variety of charities and nonprofits, with this year’s fundraiser supporting the Maternal Mental Health Alliance, the Royal College of Paramedics, Forward Trust, and more.

With summer in full swing, Kate dressed the part in a classic black-and-white gingham dress, which would translate easily from a polo match to a picnic or a stroll through the park.

The design featured a square neck and thick shoulder straps, with the silhouette consisting of a cinched empire waist that morphed into an A-line skirt. To complete her look, Kate wore one of her favorite pairs of heels: the Lucia slingback pumps from Camilla Elphick, in tan. She also accessorized with stacks of golden bracelets and a pair of cat-eye sunglasses, as well as with some hoop-shaped wooden pendant earrings.

Kate was seen walking to the match alongside her husband’s equerry, Squadron Leader Mike Reynolds. Historically, the Princess of Wales has frequently come out to support her husband at these events, but she missed the cup in 2024 and 2025 due to her cancer treatment and ongoing recovery. The last time she attended, back in 2023, she wore a baby-blue, printed midi dress from Beulah London.
