Noah Wyle used a major Emmy night for The Pitt to spotlight a policy fight he has been championing: a proposed federal film and television tax incentive aimed at bringing American productions back to the United States.
Backstage after Monday’s 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards, where Wyle won leading actor in a drama series and The Pitt took best drama, the actor told reporters he had received a positive update on the legislation, known as The Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act.
“I got a very encouraging message the other day that the federally subsidized 20 percent tax credit is getting close to closure,” Wyle said. “Hopefully that will get pushed over the top.”
The proposed bipartisan bill is intended to encourage American productions to shoot in the U.S. rather than abroad. Wyle has been a vocal advocate for bringing production back to Los Angeles in particular, though the measure would affect multiple U.S. production hubs, not only L.A.
“I think that will be a huge advantage to certainly places that have the built-in infrastructure and the talent depth that Los Angeles does,” Wyle said.
The possibility of a federally subsidized tax credit has often been viewed as a long shot, but the effort now appears to have bipartisan momentum. President Trump also pushed for the incentive earlier this month.
Wyle framed the issue as part of a broader shift he believes is already underway in Los Angeles production.
“We are now one of many shows that are shooting in Los Angeles,” he continued. “I think the trend is turning and nobody’s more happy to see that than me.”
A big night for Wyle and The Pitt
The remarks came after a particularly successful Emmy ceremony for Wyle and The Pitt. Wyle won the lead actor in a drama series trophy for the second straight year for his role as Dr. Robby in the HBO medical drama. The series also won best drama at the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Wyle was additionally nominated for his directing work on “12:00 P.M,” the sixth episode of the show’s second season.
Accepting his lead actor award, Wyle reflected on his lifelong connection to Los Angeles and the entertainment industry.
“I grew up in L.A. I‘m a Hollywood kid. I was raised on a television. Movie theaters were my place of worship. This is all I‘ve ever wanted to do and this is the only club I‘ve ever wanted to join. Thank you for accepting me,” he told the crowd.
The 2026 Emmy Awards took place Monday, Sept. 14, at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay hosted the ceremony, which featured figures from shows including The Pitt, Pluribus, Widow’s Bay and Beef.
