NBC is developing an untitled drama inspired by the Finnish series 66th North Precinct, with The Irrational creator and showrunner Arika Lisanne Mittman leading the project.
The proposed series comes from Mittman, Elevate Entertainment and Universal Television. It is envisioned as a darkly comic procedural centered on a former professional boxer who moves back to her hometown in southern Colorado with her family.
As she attempts to rebuild her life as a sheriff’s deputy, the lead character handles a different crime each week while navigating the demands of her marriage and children. Her new start is further complicated by unresolved business from her time in the ring.
The project remains in development at NBC and does not yet have a title.
From Lapland to Southern Colorado
The original 66th North Precinct is set in Lapland, described as the world’s largest police precinct. Its stories drew heavily from real and frequently unusual crimes associated with the region.
The Finnish series premiered in 2023, with Saara Kotkaniemi starring as lead character Maria Pujos. Its second season aired last year.
NBC’s version retains the procedural foundation but relocates the action to southern Colorado. It also builds its central character around a combination of police work, family pressures and a past career in professional boxing.
Mittman will executive produce alongside Alex Cole and Joe Wiggins for Elevate Entertainment. The prospective drama is Elevate’s second broadcast sale this season, following The Undertaker at ABC. That project is based on the Swiss police procedural Der Bestatte.
Mittman Returns to NBC Development
Mittman previously created and served as showrunner of NBC’s The Irrational, which starred Jesse L. Martin and ran for two seasons on the network.
Her television credits also include serving as showrunner on Spectrum TV’s Paradise Lost and NBC’s Timeless, as well as working as an executive producer on NBC’s La Brea. Earlier credits include Showtime’s Dexter, CBS’ Elementary and FX’s Tyrant.
Mittman is represented by Range, the Feldman Company and Yorn Levine.
What Happens Next?
For now, the adaptation is at the development stage. NBC has not announced a title or provided further details about casting or production. The established creative team, however, gives the network’s take on 66th North Precinct a clear direction: a weekly crime drama balancing unusual cases, dark comedy, family life and the lingering personal stakes of its former-boxer protagonist.
