About the Movie
After witnessing his billionaire boss' murder and being framed for the crime, Cole Reed boards a cargo ship on a one-man crusade to avenge his boss' death only to discover an international conspiracy.
Our Review
Mutiny knows exactly what audiences are buying when Jason Statham is trapped aboard a ship surrounded by people who want him dead. The movie moves quickly from setup to confrontation and gives Statham plenty of opportunities to do what he does best: turn physical danger into momentum.
The cargo-ship setting provides a useful contained arena, and the action sequences deliver the expected combination of close-quarters fights, improvised weapons, and escalating danger. Statham remains an appealing screen presence even when the material around him is less distinctive.
The problem is that the movie rarely finds a way beyond its familiar action-thriller formula. The villains and twists are functional rather than memorable, and the story feels more interested in keeping the machinery moving than giving its characters much additional depth.
