Netflix’s new three-part documentary series The One About Matthew Perry debuted at the top of the platform’s English-language television chart, drawing 9.5 million views during its first weekend of availability.
The series ranked No. 1 for the October 26-November 1 measurement period, finishing just over 30% ahead of the week’s second-place title, Nobody Wants This.
The documentary is the first in-depth project about the late actor to include new testimonials from his loved ones and collaborators. Its opening performance put it comfortably ahead of several returning Netflix series, including Nobody Wants This, The Diplomat and Love Is Blind.
A Strong Documentary Debut
Season 3 of Nobody Wants This, starring Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, followed in second place with 7.2 million views. That figure was slightly higher than the season’s opening-weekend performance, with the latest chart covering its first full week of availability.
Despite the modest increase, Season 3 remains behind the starting pace set by Season 2.
The remainder of Netflix’s English-language television list experienced a considerable drop in audience size. Below landed at No. 3 with 3.8 million views, about half of what it attracted the previous week when it held first place.
Below has now spent four weeks in the Top 10. Its run began with a record debut for a Canadian scripted series on Netflix.
Season 4 of The Diplomat also declined but retained a high chart position, taking fourth place with 2.9 million views. Love Is Blind followed at No. 5 with 2.8 million, even as new episodes arrived.
‘Lupin’ Leads All Series
Although The One About Matthew Perry led the English-language television rankings, the biggest series audience of the week belonged to Lupin.
Part 4 of the French drama, starring Omar Sy, reached No. 1 on the non-English television chart with 10.8 million views. Its return also sent all three earlier installments back into Netflix’s weekly Top 10.
Part 1 took second place with 5.2 million views, while Part 2 ranked sixth with 3.2 million. Part 3 appeared at No. 8 after collecting 3 million views.
The franchise’s latest performance nevertheless remains below the pace of its previous season. Part 3 generated 14.1 million views during its second week of availability, compared with Part 4’s 10.8 million for the current chart period. That gap adds to the evidence that Netflix is facing challenges in maintaining audience enthusiasm for returning scripted series.
Non-English programming also produced the larger numbers on Netflix’s film charts. Animals led the English-language movie list with 4.7 million views, while the Mexican drama Surviving Hurricane Otis topped the non-English film ranking with 12.4 million.
ShowBiz Take
The significance of The One About Matthew Perry reaching No. 1 is not simply its chart position. With 9.5 million views over its first weekend, the documentary opened well ahead of every returning title on Netflix’s English television list.
Its performance is especially notable alongside the softer numbers for established scripted and reality programming. Nobody Wants This improved slightly but remained below its previous season’s launch pace, while Below, The Diplomat and Love Is Blind each finished below 4 million views.
At the same time, the overall rankings underline the strength of Netflix’s non-English slate. Lupin Part 4 surpassed the Perry documentary across all series, and its arrival renewed interest in every previous installment. On the film side, Surviving Hurricane Otis attracted more than twice the audience recorded by the leading English-language movie.
For the October 26-November 1 chart, however, The One About Matthew Perry was the clear English-language television winner, turning its first weekend into a 9.5 million-view debut.
