This has been the summer of luxury flip-flops, thong kitten heels, and super-thin, square-toe sandals; but according to Margaret Qualley and Chanel, maybe it’s time we stop wearing ordinary shoes altogether and quite literally touch grass, or… floor.
Today in London, Qualley walked the red carpet for the world premiere of The Dog Stars at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. The carpet itself was sprinkled with dirt and wild plants, nodding to the plot of the film, which is set nine years after a flu pandemic wipes out most of Earth’s population. Like a true survivalist—albeit one in tune with high fashion—Qualley walked the carpet nearly barefoot. Actually, she wore Chanel’s viral naked sandals from the house’s Cruise 2027 collection, which feature a heel cap with ankle straps, but no sole. The accessories essentially leave the entire foot exposed to the elements—something which, in a post-apocalyptic world, would probably matter very little.
In The Dog Stars, Qualley plays Cima, a doctor who connects with the pilot Hig (played by Jacob Elordi). Hig is an armed survivor living in an abandoned Colorado airport with his dog and an aggressive survivalist named Bangley. The thriller, based on Peter Heller’s novel of the same name, will be released in theaters on August 28.
Today, styled by Danielle Goldberg, Qualley paired her barefoot sandals with a shaggy black dress dripping with dotted fringe, pulled from the Chanel Resort 2027 collection. Chunky diamond earrings, a black mani-pedi, and a beachy blowout rounded it all out.
Elordi, who is decidedly not method dressing for the film’s press run, was polished and dapper in a pinstripe navy suit and tie, worn with black dress shoes.
