“Lioness” closed its third season with the biggest audience in the show’s history, drawing 9.7 million viewers during the finale’s first seven days of availability.

The performance also gave the series a significant place in Paramount+’s record book. The episode now ranks as the fifth most-watched finale of all time among the streaming service’s original programming.

More importantly, the finale’s audience was the culmination of steady gains across the entire season rather than a one-week surge. Season 3 averaged 8.5 million viewers per week during its eight-week run from Aug. 2 through Sept. 20, with every installment attracting more viewers than the week before it.

A Season of Sustained Audience Growth

The third season’s weekly average increased 62% over the average for Season 2 in 2024. That same percentage gain also appeared in another key measurement: Season 3 accumulated 3.9 billion minutes watched during its eight-week run, up 62% from the previous season.

“Lioness” maintained a presence beyond Paramount+’s internal rankings as well. The series appeared on Nielsen and Luminate’s top 10 streaming charts for eight consecutive weeks.

According to Nielsen, finale week produced the show’s first billion-minute viewing total. Earlier episodes also continued to draw attention during the Season 3 rollout, with Seasons 1 and 2 combining for 2.5 million minutes watched in the same window.

Taken together, the figures show growth across several measures: the record-setting 9.7 million-viewer finale, a higher weekly audience than Season 2, rising viewership from one episode to the next, and increased total minutes watched.

The Cast and Creative Team Behind “Lioness”

Taylor Sheridan created “Lioness,” which is produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios.

Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman lead a cast that also includes Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Hannah Love Lanier, Thad Luckinbill, Ian Bohen, Michael Kelly and Morgan Freeman.

Sheridan serves as an executive producer alongside David C. Glasser, Saldaña, Kidman, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski and Keith Cox.

ShowBiz Take

The standout number is 9.7 million, but the week-to-week trajectory may be the more revealing part of the Season 3 performance. A finale can benefit from the anticipation surrounding a season’s conclusion, yet “Lioness” increased its audience with every successive week before setting its series record.

Its fifth-place ranking among all Paramount+ original finales also gives the result wider context within the platform’s programming history. Meanwhile, eight straight weeks on both Nielsen and Luminate’s top 10 charts demonstrate that the season’s momentum extended across its full run.

The viewing data also points to interest beyond the newest episodes. With Seasons 1 and 2 generating additional catch-up viewing while Season 3 was underway, the latest run drew viewers into more than just its finale. For “Lioness,” the third season ended not only with a new high but after eight weeks of continuous audience growth.
