Lindsay Lohan and Henry Golding are pairing up for Netflix’s new romantic feature Return to You, with Lohan also producing the film.
Mark Waters will direct the project, reuniting with Lohan after previously directing her in Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. The film also brings Lohan back together with producer Brad Krevoy, whose Netflix credits with the actor include Falling for Christmas and Irish Wish.
Written by Eric Champnella, Return to You takes place in 2008 and centers on a powerful but isolated female attorney played by Lohan. Her life changes when she mistakenly receives an intensely personal DVD recorded by a dying woman for her husband, played by Golding.
Working only with information contained on the DVD, the attorney sets out to find the intended recipient. The emotional mix-up provides the foundation for the film’s romantic story and brings Lohan and Golding together on screen for the Netflix production.
Olivia Krevoy, Jimmy Townsend and Galen Fletcher are executive producing. Champnella is represented by IAG and Dave Feldman.
A reunion with familiar collaborators
Return to You extends Lohan’s run of romance-focused projects. Her credits in the genre include Just My Luck from 2006, Falling for Christmas from 2022, and 2024 releases Irish Wish and Our Little Secret.
The film also marks another chapter in Lohan’s creative history with Waters. In addition to their work on Mean Girls, in which Lohan played Cady Heron, Waters directed her opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday. Lohan reprised that role in the 2025 sequel Freakier Friday.
Lohan made her feature-film debut in Walt Disney Pictures’ The Parent Trap in 1998. She went on to appear in Disney projects including Life-Size, Get a Clue and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, before her starring turns in Freaky Friday and the teen comedy Mean Girls.
Beyond Return to You, Lohan is set to star in and executive produce Hulu’s limited drama series Count My Lies. The forthcoming series is adapted from Sophia Stava’s bestselling novel. Lohan is represented by IAG and attorney Dave Feldman.
Golding returns to romance
Golding also arrives at Return to You with an extensive slate of romantic films. He was the leading man in 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians, followed by Last Christmas in 2019, Monsoon in 2020 and Daniela Forever in 2024.
His more recent work includes the second season of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, Amazon MGM Studios’ Another Simple Favor and Netflix’s Old Guard 2. He can also be seen in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen.
Golding’s additional film credits include Snake Eyes, A Simple Favor, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Persuasion. He is represented by CAA, Megan Silverman Management and Goodman, Genow.
With its 2008 setting, a mistakenly delivered farewell message and a search for the man who was meant to receive it, Return to You places its two romance veterans at the center of an emotionally driven mystery. It also continues Lohan’s collaborations with both Waters and Krevoy while introducing her first starring partnership with Golding.
