Johnny Depp’s Hollywood comeback is gathering pace with the arrival of the first teaser trailer for Day Drinker, a new revenge thriller that reunites him with Penélope Cruz.

The teaser debuted Thursday, offering an early look at the Lionsgate film directed by Marc Webb. Madelyn Cline stars as a bartender working aboard a private yacht, where she crosses paths with a mysterious guest played by Depp.
That encounter draws the pair into the orbit of a criminal figure portrayed by Cruz. As the situation unfolds, the bartender and her enigmatic passenger become entangled with Cruz’s character while discovering unexpected connections between them.
Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz reunite
Day Drinker marks the third film collaboration between Depp and Cruz. The actors previously appeared together in Blow and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
The latest project places their reunion inside a revenge story, with Cline’s yacht bartender positioned at the center of the collision between Depp’s guest and Cruz’s criminal character.
The trailer is also the second major preview for a Depp-led film to arrive in recent months. Footage from Ebenezer, Ti West’s remake of A Christmas Carol, was released in July.
Ebenezer is due to arrive Nov. 13, while Day Drinker will open in theaters March 26, 2027. Together, the two releases mark a renewed run of prominent projects for Depp following his estrangement from Hollywood in the wake of domestic abuse allegations made in 2016 and a 2022 defamation trial stemming from his short-lived marriage to Amber Heard.
Another Pirates appearance remains possible
Depp could also return to one of his best-known roles, although that prospect has not been confirmed. In August, Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer said discussions were actively taking place about bringing the actor back for Pirates 6.
“We’re talking with Johnny [Depp], we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done,” Bruckheimer said.
The producer’s comments establish that talks and screenplay work were underway, but stop short of confirming Depp’s involvement in the film.
What Happens Next?
Depp’s next confirmed release is Ebenezer on Nov. 13. That will be followed by the theatrical debut of Day Drinker on March 26, 2027, bringing his third on-screen pairing with Cruz to audiences.
Beyond those two films, the possible Pirates 6 return remains dependent on the continuing discussions and screenplay development described by Bruckheimer.
