Kim Kardashian says she and Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, have found common ground when it comes to guiding their eldest daughter North West’s growing music career.
In an interview published Oct. 4, Kardashian said communication between the former couple is stronger on that subject, with both parents taking part in decisions about the 13-year-old’s opportunities.
“That is something that her dad and I have better communication about,” Kardashian said. “We make sure we’re aligned and that she’s in projects that we both approve.”
Kardashian and Ye share four children: North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7. Although Kardashian indicated that she and Ye do not always agree on every part of co-parenting, North’s creative ambitions have given them an area where they work to present a united approach.
Kim Kardashian is trying to manage North’s pace
North, Kardashian said, is especially eager to pursue visible creative work. But the reality TV mogul is not allowing every possible project to move forward, even as her daughter’s interest continues to grow.
“North loves it a little bit more than the rest,” she said. “I hold her back. All she wants to do is forward-facing projects. [I’m trying to] savor those moments and not doing everything that comes her way, so we can really make sure that we manage it the right way.”
Her comments suggest that the parents’ shared approval process is paired with an effort to be selective. While North is enthusiastic about taking on more work, Kardashian is focused on preserving parts of her childhood and carefully overseeing which opportunities she accepts.
North West’s music résumé is already taking shape
North was named to the 2026 class of 21 Under 21 and released her debut EP, N0rth4evr, in May.
She also became one of the youngest acts to reach the Hot 100. At age 10, her collaboration with Ye and Ty Dolla $ign, “Talking,” climbed to No. 30 on the chart. North also appeared on Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s 2024 album Vultures.
Speaking over the summer about navigating music at a young age, North addressed the public commentary surrounding her work and identity.
“People have so much to say about what I’m doing and how I’m doing it,” she said. “As a young artist, you have to figure out who you are before the world tries to tell you who to be.”
Her performance experience also expanded in August, when she headlined her first show in Chicago. Both Kardashian and Ye attended and cheered her on.
Another planned step did not go ahead. North had been slated to embark on a joint tour with Molly Santana earlier this year, but the tour was canceled.
A co-parenting relationship after divorce
Kardashian and Ye began dating in 2012 and married during a 2014 ceremony in Italy. Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021, and the proceedings concluded with a settlement in November 2022.
While Kardashian acknowledged differences in their broader co-parenting relationship, her latest comments make clear that North’s career is receiving oversight from both parents. For now, Kardashian’s approach is not simply about finding the next project. It is about deciding, together with Ye, which projects North should take on and how quickly her public career should develop.
