Atlantic Records and Rockstar Games are putting a major music rollout behind Grand Theft Auto VI.
The companies announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album today, Sept. 17, setting a Nov. 19 release date for the 34-song project. The album is scheduled to arrive the same day as Grand Theft Auto VI.
While the full album is still two months away, six tracks from the project are streaming now, offering the first official preview of the game’s companion music release. The initial batch draws from a wide mix of artists and styles, including Yung Lean featuring Future and Metro Boomin on “That’s It,” and Travis Scott on “RHYNO,” a track produced by Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso.
The preview also includes “Sexy Magic,” credited to PinkPantheress, Fred again.. and Étienne de Crécy, alongside Morgan Wallen’s “The Last Thing You Need,” Rauw Alejandro’s “Macacoa 2000” and Keith Richards’ “Bright Lights, Big City.”
The album’s music is being positioned around the world of Grand Theft Auto VI, with songs designed to reflect the energy of Vice City and Leonida, the fictional setting of the game. According to the announcement, the release is also intended to continue the Grand Theft Auto franchise’s history of bringing new music and musical subcultures to a worldwide audience.
Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album will not stand alone as the game’s only musical component. It is set to arrive alongside the next iteration of the game’s in-game radio stations, score and other musical touchpoints associated with the series.
The project is available for pre-order now and will be issued in multiple vinyl and CD formats. Atlantic Records will offer three exclusives: a limited-edition liquid-filled vinyl, a splatter edition vinyl and a CD jewel case. Each of those editions will feature exclusive new artwork and packaging designs inspired by the signature style of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Additional retail exclusives are also planned for Blood Records, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Target, Urban Outfitters and indie record stores. Each of those editions will include a unique vinyl pressing design and poster.
What happens next?
The full 34-track Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album is set for release on Nov. 19, the same day Grand Theft Auto VI arrives. Until then, the six newly released songs serve as the first public preview of the album’s sound and its connection to Vice City and Leonida.
