A live-action reboot of the mid-90s animated television series Gargoyles is not moving forward at Disney+.
It had previously been reported that a live-action reboot of the series from Annabelle writer Gary Dauberman and James Wan‘s Atomic Monster was in early development at the streamer in 2023, but original series co-creator Greg Weisman told Comics Online in an interview that a live-action series is not in the works.
“That’s dead,” Weisman replied, when asked about the project. “I have no idea about animation, but there are no current plans for live-action,” he said.

A source close to the project confirmed to Deadline that a live-action reboot is not moving forward.
Based on the cult classic Disney animated series, the reboot was to have centered around Goliath, the last of a heroic race of gargoyle warriors who once lived among mankind. Free from a centuries long curse that turned him into stone, Goliath struggles to solve the mystery of his past while watching over modern-day New York City alongside police detective Elisa Maza.
Created by Weisman, the original Walt Disney Television Animation series, which aired from 1994-1997, revolved around nocturnal creatures known as gargoyles that turn to stone during the day. They were awakened after being trapped in stone form for a thousand years in medieval Scotland , and are now battling in modern-day New York City.
The voice cast included Keith David, Salli Richardson, Jeff Bennett, Bill Fagerbakke, Thom Adcox-Hernandez, Ed Asner, Frank Welker, Bridgitte Bako, Marina Sirtis and Jonathan Frakes.
Dauberman was to serve as writer, executive produce and showrunner on the reboot, with Wan and Michael Clear executive producing for Atomic Monster.
