Evil Dead Burn has locked in its home-streaming arrival. Sébastien Vaniček’s contribution to the long-running horror franchise will make its global streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max on Friday, October 2.
The New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures film will then move to HBO’s linear schedule on Saturday, October 3, at 8 p.m. ET. Its television premiere will follow special showings of Fede Álvarez’s Evil Dead from 2013 and Lee Cronin’s 2023 installment, Evil Dead Rise.
Evil Dead Burn previously opened in U.S. theaters on July 10. Vaniček directed the film and co-wrote it with Florent Bernard.
The cast features Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Erroll Shand and Maude Davey.
A family gathering turns deadly
The story follows a woman who, after losing her husband, looks for comfort with his family at their isolated home. The gathering descends into horror as her in-laws are transformed one after another into Deadites, forcing her to confront the continuing power of the vows she made while her husband was alive.
The official synopsis describes the escalating ordeal this way: “After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. As one by one they are transformed into Deadites – turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell – she comes to discover that the vows she took in life live on… even in death.”
Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi produced Evil Dead Burn. Bruce Campbell, Romel Adam, Sarah Spurway, Jose Cañas and Cronin served as executive producers.
The franchise’s path to Evil Dead Burn
The new film joins a series that began with Raimi’s original trilogy: The Evil Dead in 1981, Evil Dead II in 1987 and Army of Darkness in 1993.
Álvarez rebooted the franchise with Evil Dead in 2013. A decade later, Cronin directed Evil Dead Rise, which took the films in a darker direction and earned $147 million globally.
HBO’s October 3 scheduling puts Evil Dead Burn directly after special presentations of those two more recent entries, giving viewers a chance to revisit both before the latest movie’s linear debut. HBO Max subscribers will be able to stream Evil Dead Burn one day earlier through its exclusive October 2 premiere.
What Happens Next?
The franchise already has another movie on its schedule. Francis Galluppi’s Evil Dead Wrath is set for 2028, placing it next in line after Vaniček’s installment.
