Ella Bruccoleri, Sophie Stone and Izuka Hoyle are among 21 creatives named to the BAFTA Breakthrough 2026 U.K. cohort, bringing together emerging talent working across film, television, documentary and unscripted programming, and games.

Bruccoleri is recognized as a performer for The Other Bennet Sister, while Stone is included for her performance in Falling. Hoyle joins the group as a performer from Prisoner.

Now in its 13th year, BAFTA Breakthrough is supported by Netflix and described by BAFTA as its flagship initiative for new talent. The program focuses on people who are approaching or already experiencing a significant career moment across the screen industries.

BAFTA said the latest U.K. class covers specialties including casting, production, directing, performance and writing, with participants connected to some of the past year’s most acclaimed projects.

A Year of Career Support

The 2026 participants will receive year-round assistance that includes individual meetings, career guidance, access to industry networking events and full BAFTA membership.

More than 330 people have taken part in BAFTA Breakthrough globally. Previous participants have represented disciplines ranging from acting and screenwriting to game design, editing, art direction and costume design. According to BAFTA, program alumni have collectively received more than 200 BAFTA nominations and over 80 wins.

BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip called Breakthrough “a hugely impactful program,” adding that it is designed to provide creatives and practitioners across games, television and film with the support and relationships needed to establish lasting careers.

“This year’s cohort comes from fantastically diverse backgrounds and skill sets which really enrich the stories they bring to our screens,” Millichip said.

Netflix is backing the initiative for a seventh year. Anne Mensah, the company’s vice president of U.K. content, said the partnership forms part of Generation N, Netflix’s commitment to supporting new, emerging and mid-career talent in the U.K.

Mensah described the newly announced participants as “an incredibly exciting range of names” and said it was an honor to help them develop through the program’s guidance and support.

ShowBiz Take

The significance of this class lies in its range. Bruccoleri, Stone and Hoyle may provide recognizable focal points within the television group, but BAFTA’s selections extend well beyond on-screen performers. Casting, production design, hair and make-up, reporting, producing and game development all have a place in the 21-member cohort.

That breadth reflects the program’s stated purpose: supporting talent across all three screen sectors rather than concentrating on a single route into the industry. The combination of full BAFTA membership, direct career guidance and industry access also makes Breakthrough more than an annual list of names; it is a structured, year-long development initiative.

What Happens Next?

The U.K. participants now move into the program’s year-round support cycle. BAFTA North America is also expected to unveil the BAFTA Breakthrough U.S. talent later this month.
