Thousands of fans were devastated to hear that Doja Cat and Massive Attack‘s headlining Primavera Sound sets were canceled Thursday (June 4) due to extreme weather in Barcelona, and the artists are just as heartbroken as they are.

Both the rapper and trip-hop group shared messages with fans after it was announced that heavy wind and rainstorms had made it unsafe to continue with the rest of the festival’s programming that night. “Barcelona i am fully dressed and ready to go to stage but it’s just not safe enough to continue the show tonight, Doja wrote on X. “I’m so sorry that this is how this s–t has to be right now. I will think of everything I can under the sun to make it up to you.”

In an Instagram statement, Massive Attack members 3D and Daddy G expressed that they felt “devastated” by the cancelation. “After previous disappointments we were really excited to play this festival,” they continued. “No one can control severe weather, we understand that, and the safety of the audience, show staff, the crews and the artists must be paramount … the deep frustration for us as artists is that in the midst of the chaos, we are unable to communicate directly with fans who we know are as upset as we are.”

Doja also went on a livestream to further show fans how disappointed she was. Dressed up in her extravagant, colorful stage outfit with tears melting theatrical makeup off her face, the Grammy winner got choked up as she told her Instagram live viewers, “The weather was not going to get any better … I don’t think anybody really truly knew how bad it was going to get.”

“I really wanted to see you guys tonight,” she continued. “I do love you, and I’m absolutely crushed and torn to pieces about the whole thing. I know it’s not my fault, like, yeah, it’s the weather, but I’m sorry. I really wanted to give you a great show tonight.”

Thursday was the first day of the three-day festival, which was brought to an early end due to unsafe weather conditions. After Geese performed through a chaotic rainstorm, sets by Alex G, Mac DeMarco, and Bad Gyal were canceled in addition to the night’s headliners.

“We understand and share the frustration and disappointment of the audience regarding this situation, which is not what we had hoped for,” read a statement issued by Primavera Sound on Friday (June 5), noting that refunds will be issued to ticket holders soon. “We thank the audience for their understanding and confirm that, despite the difficulty of the situation, there were no serious incidents.”

The second day of the festival is scheduled to go on as planned, featuring sets from The Cure, Skrillex, PinkPantheress, Ethel Cain, Role Model, My Bloody Valentine and more.
