The eight-episode series is set to premiere Thursday, October 15 on Peacock. Brad Caleb Kane, whose credits include “IT: Welcome to Derry,” serves as creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer.

The trailer leans hard into the familiar dread of the “Friday the 13th” mythology, including the unsettling “ki ki ki, ma ma ma” sound associated with the franchise. It also teases the tragic death of young Jason and shows Pamela speaking to policeman Levon Brooks, telling him, “I don’t want to heal.” As the preview unfolds, bodies begin to pile up, with some people suspecting man-eating bears while other residents of Crystal Lake appear to have a darker understanding of what may be happening.

Pamela Voorhees Takes Center Stage

According to the official synopsis, “Crystal Lake” follows single mother Pam Voorhees, who has not been able to move past the death of her young, sickly son Jason, who drowned in the town lake almost a year earlier. The story is set into motion when two strangers arrive at Pam’s door and begin digging into her past, triggering a disturbing chain of events that leaves the town asking: “Just who is Pam Voorhees?”

Cardellini leads the series as Pamela, shifting the focus of the “Friday the 13th” story to the mother whose grief defines the new prequel. Callum Vinson appears in the recurring cast as young Jason.

The cast also includes William Catlett of “Black Lightning,” Devin Kessler of “Godfather of Harlem,” Cameron Scoggins of “Nashville,” and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Other recurring cast members include Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik.

A Long-Developing Return to Crystal Lake

“Crystal Lake” has been in development for several years. The project first received a series order in October 2022. Bryan Fuller, known for “Hannibal,” was originally set to serve as showrunner, but he stepped down in 2024. Kane later took over the series.

The new show arrives with a long screen history behind it. The “Friday the 13th” franchise has produced 12 feature films, beginning with the original 1980 slasher film. The film run also includes 2003’s “Freddy vs. Jason” and a 2009 remake.

There was also a previous television entry titled “Friday the 13th: The Series,” which ran from 1987 to 1990 and produced 72 episodes across three seasons. However, aside from the title, that show had no connection to Pamela or Jason Voorhees.

What Happens Next?

With the full trailer now out, “Crystal Lake” is positioned as Peacock’s upcoming return to one of horror’s most recognizable settings. The series premieres Thursday, October 15, with all attention now on how Pamela Voorhees’ grief, Jason’s death and the town’s secrets collide across the eight-episode season.
