Disney+ is reviving the classic 1990s cartoon “Darkwing Duck” as an all-new animated series, with Mark Hamill leading the voice cast as Drake Mallard, the masked crimefighter better known as Darkwing Duck.

Hamill will be joined by Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack and Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard. The ensemble also includes Lilimar as Duckie, Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa and Kathryn Newton as Firecracker.

The new story finds Darkwing stuck in an alternate reality where nobody has heard about his adventures. According to the official synopsis, he has spent 35 years trapped in that world before a rebellious teenager named Duckie arrives with knowledge of his heroic past and pushes the “ego-fueled vigilante” back into action.

Darkwing and Duckie will face returning enemies Negaduck and Megavolt as they attempt to save the universe. The mission will also reunite the superhero with familiar allies Launchpad, Gosalyn and Morgana.

A 91-Episode Animated Legacy

The original “Darkwing Duck” debuted in 1991, airing in syndication and on Saturday mornings on ABC. The superhero parody followed Drake Mallard as he balanced his life as a suburban father with his crimefighting alter ego.

Launchpad McQuack had previously appeared in Disney’s animated series “DuckTales” before becoming part of Darkwing’s adventures. “Darkwing Duck” ultimately ran for three seasons and produced 91 episodes.

The Disney+ project gives the character a fresh premise while bringing several established figures from the original series back into the story. It also introduces Duckie as the teenager whose arrival sets Darkwing’s return to battle in motion.

“Protective Custody” centers on a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud who is placed in protective custody while awaiting trial. Inside prison, he must contend with its politics, try to repair his damaged reputation and face the consequences of his actions.

Garofalo is also known for “The Larry Sanders Show,” while Stiller and Del Toro headline the comedy’s central cast.

Charlie Hall will star in and co-write an untitled comedy currently in development at Netflix. The project comes from “Barry” alum Alec Berg.

The proposed series will focus on a drug ring operating from a college fraternity. Its premise is loosely inspired by recent real events at Penn State University.

Hall’s casting follows his work in “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed.” In addition to taking the lead role, he will help shape the project as a co-writer while it moves through development.
