Marvel Studios is seeing major early demand for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Disney says the next Marvel Cinematic Universe entry has already generated $50 million in domestic pre-sales, with the film still three months away from its Dec. 18 release.
The figure was disclosed Wednesday by Walt Disney Company senior executive VP and Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston during the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference. For a studio preparing one of its biggest ensemble superhero releases, the early ticket number offers a clear sign that audiences are already locking in plans for the latest “Avengers” chapter.
Disney also reported that more than 70% of the domestic pre-sales are for Infinity Vision tickets, underscoring the pull of premium large format screenings for the film. Infinity Vision is a new certification for premium large format theaters that Disney unveiled at CinemaCon, where it was promoted as offering “the biggest, brightest and most immersive cinematic experiences” for moviegoers.
A massive Marvel roster
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, “Avengers: Doomsday” brings together a large lineup of Marvel heroes, including the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and the original X-Men, as they unite against Victor Von Doom.
Robert Downey Jr. returns for the film as the MCU’s new major villain after Tony Stark/Iron Man’s death at the end of “Avengers: Endgame.” Chris Evans is also back as Steve Rogers/Captain America, following the character’s decision in “Endgame” to travel back in time and step away from superhero duties.
The returning MCU cast also includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi.
“Doomsday” also marks the official MCU debut for several stars from Fox’s past “X-Men” films following Disney’s acquisition of the studio. Patrick Stewart returns as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
The “Fantastic Four: First Steps” cast is also part of the ensemble, with Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing. The “Thunderbolts” lineup appearing in “Doomsday” includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost.
Marvel builds the countdown
Ahead of the movie’s theatrical debut, Marvel has launched “Countdown to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Official Podcast,” a companion rollout tied to five films from the Infinity Saga.
The podcast began Aug. 27 with an episode focused on “The Avengers.” Additional episodes cover “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on Sept. 3, “Captain America: Civil War” on Sept. 10, “Avengers: Infinity War” on Sept. 17 and “Avengers: Endgame” on Sept. 24. All five films are available to stream on Disney+.
The fifth podcast episode is timed to coincide with the Sept. 25, 2026 theatrical re-release of “Avengers Endgame: Encore.”
With $50 million already booked in domestic pre-sales and a majority of those sales tied to Infinity Vision, “Avengers: Doomsday” is entering its final stretch before release with premium-format demand already playing a central role in Disney’s rollout.
