The great Ariana Grande once said, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh.” Now, she’s rewriting her past. The pop star, who dated dancer Ricky Alvarez from 2015 to 2016 after meeting on her first world tour, the Honeymoon Tour, was first spotted reuniting with him earlier this month. Now, new snippets of their reconciliation have dropped.
In a recent video sent to DeuxMoi and posted on July 23, the on-again couple was spotted on a walk in New York City’s Upper West Side with Grande’s dog, Toulouse. The singer herself wore jeans and a graphic baby tee for the outing, with her hair in a scrunchie-tied low bun and a Glinda-worthy pink headband. Alvarez, next to her, was casual in a navy-blue T-shirt and matching beanie.
This video followed a string of public outings for the two of them, from a June dinner for Grande’s birthday to a Fourth of July grocery store run in Florida.
The artist, who is on her Eternal Sunshine tour, even sent a sweet nod to her flame while on stage, switching the lyrics of her 2018 hit single “Thank U, Next” to show her appreciation for him. “Wrote some songs about Ricky / I know he’s still got my back,” she sang at one show. At another, she joked, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / And they still kinda slap.”
Speaking of the pair’s reunion, a source recently told People that “Ricky has always been a friend and confidant” to Grande, and that she “really trusts him.” While the insider specified that the two aren’t “jumping into anything serious right away,” on July 13, Grande gave a hint that something more than rekindled friendship might be brewing between her and Alvarez. During her Barclays Center show in Brooklyn, which happened to coincide with the dancer’s birthday, she offered up yet another new lyric change: “Wrote some songs about Ricky / We always find our way back.”
