Gracie Abrams turned her Halloween visit to Saturday Night Live into a two-part tribute to Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film Romeo + Juliet.

The two-time Grammy nominee used her pair of musical performances to portray both sides of the movie’s doomed romance, drawing inspiration from the looks worn by Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio in the stylized adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy.

Two Songs, Two Costumes

Abrams began with “Hit the Wall,” a track from her third studio album, Daughter from Hell. For that performance, she appeared in a version of the angel costume worn by Danes in the film.

The staging extended the cinematic reference beyond Abrams’ wardrobe. She started the song from behind an aquarium, adding another visual connection to the movie while performing for the live audience at Studio 8H.

When Abrams returned later in the episode, she switched characters as well as songs. She performed “Here You Come, There You Go” from the deluxe album while dressed in a tropical button-down shirt modeled on DiCaprio’s look, complete with the metal sleeves associated with his suit-of-armor costume.

Together, the appearances gave viewers a pair of coordinated Halloween transformations rather than a single costume carried across both musical numbers. The first performance centered on Danes’ Juliet, while the second moved to DiCaprio’s Romeo.

A Return to Studio 8H

The episode marked Abrams’ second stint as an SNL musical guest. She previously made her debut on the program in 2024.

The night also brought a separate milestone for host Inde Navarrette, who made her hosting debut on the show.

ShowBiz Take

Abrams’ appearance worked as more than a Halloween wardrobe showcase because each costume was assigned its own performance. By dividing the Romeo + Juliet homage between “Hit the Wall” and “Here You Come, There You Go,” she created a visual through line across her two musical slots while still giving each song a distinct presentation.

The film references were also specific and immediately tied to its central characters: Danes’ angel costume for the opening number, followed by DiCaprio’s tropical shirt and armor-inspired sleeves later in the episode. For Abrams’ second visit as musical guest, the coordinated concept made both performances part of the same Halloween-themed statement.
