Charli xcx is reportedly set to enter Martin Scorsese’s cinematic orbit with a cameo in the director’s upcoming psychological thriller What Happens at Night.

According to Variety, the singer will appear in an unspecified role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. The report follows Scorsese’s own cameo on the cover of Charli’s recent Music, Fashion, Film album, extending their creative connection from music packaging to the big screen.

The casting has not been formally confirmed. At press time, a representative for Charli had not responded to Billboard’s request for confirmation.

Inside What Happens at Night

Apple and StudioCanal’s Gothic psychological drama centers on a married American couple who travel to a small European town to adopt a baby. As they struggle to complete the adoption, the pair begin to question how well they truly know one another.

DiCaprio and Lawrence lead a cast that will also feature Mads Mikkelsen, whose credits include Another Round; Patricia Clarkson, who appeared in She Said; and Foundation actor Jared Harris.

The movie is Scorsese’s follow-up to the Oscar-nominated 2023 drama Killers of the Flower Moon. No release date has been announced for What Happens at Night.

Charli’s Expanding Movie Run

If confirmed, the Scorsese cameo would continue a busy stretch of film work for Charli. Her recent screen run has included seven movies over the past two years, most recently the Netflix eco-terror thriller Sacrifice.

In that film, Charli plays Mother Nature, a self-absorbed pop star who turns on fellow performer Daughter Nature, played by Ambika Mod, during an upscale environmental event held inside a cave on a remote Greek island.

Mother Nature performs the environmental anthem “Supernature,” written by Gener8ion, before the gathering is taken hostage by an ecological group that believes the end of the world is approaching.

The event’s guests include vain action star Mike Tyler, played by Chris Evans; Ben Bracken, portrayed by Vincent Cassel and described as the world’s richest man; and Ben’s glamorous wife, pop singer Gloria Bracken, played by Salma Hayek. Anya Taylor-Joy appears as Joan, the group’s lead eco-terrorist, while rapper Yung Lean plays Joan’s brother.

Charli’s other recent dramatic projects are Erupcja, 100 Nights of Hero, The Gallerist, Faces of Death, I Want Your Sex and The Moment. The latter is a tour mockumentary in which she portrays an amplified version of herself.

The reported What Happens at Night booking matters because it would place Charli’s growing film work inside a major Scorsese project, even if her role is only a cameo. It would also create a notable two-way connection: Scorsese appeared on the cover of her Music, Fashion, Film album, and Charli would now step into his next movie.

More importantly, the cameo would not be an isolated acting experiment. With seven films already forming part of her recent two-year screen run, Charli has built a substantial slate across dramas, thrillers and a mockumentary while continuing her music career.

Confirmation of Charli’s role, details about her character and a release date for What Happens at Night remain outstanding.

In the meantime, Charli was scheduled to close out the 2026 dates of her Music, Fashion, Film tour on Friday, Oct. 23, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. She canceled the previous show in Glendale, Arizona, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, after telling fans she had “completely lost” her voice.
