Tinashe has scored the biggest debut of her career on the 200 albums chart with Popstar, which enters at No. 6.
The result gives the singer her first top 10 album on the chart and easily surpasses her previous career peak. Tinashe celebrated the milestone on X on Monday, Oct. 5, sharing an emotional message with the fans who supported the release.
“I’m so unbelievably grateful, this is CRAZY!” she wrote, celebrating the No. 6 debut and adding multiple crying emojis. After thanking listeners “so soooooo much” for their love and support, she signed off with: “I’m cryinggggg.”
Victoria Monét was among those who publicly joined the celebration. Quote-tweeting Tinashe’s post, the fellow singer wrote, “YESSS! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! Flowers and rockets to the moon my girl. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!” Her message also included a collection of celebratory emojis.
A major new chart high
Popstar marks a dramatic advance in Tinashe’s history on the 200 albums chart, which now spans more than a decade. Before this release, her highest-charting album was her 2014 major-label debut, Aquarius. That record debuted and peaked at No. 17.
Her later albums Nightride and Joyride reached Nos. 89 and 58, respectively. Tinashe subsequently continued releasing music independently, remaining active across the R&B and pop spaces.
The scale of her latest leap is especially clear when compared with her most recent album. Quantum Baby, released in 2024, entered the chart at No. 199. With Popstar arriving at No. 6, Tinashe has improved on that chart position by 193 places while securing a career first in the top 10.
The album’s debut also follows several years in which renewed attention around Tinashe’s music translated into notable singles-chart results.
Her 2024 single “Nasty” became a viral success and climbed to No. 61 on the Hot 100. It was her first solo entry on that chart in roughly a decade.
Tinashe then collaborated with Disco Lines on “No Broke Boys,” which went on to reach No. 36 on the Hot 100. The result gave her a first top 40 hit on the chart since “2 On” in 2014.
“No Broke Boys” also established an extended run at the summit of the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, spending 24 weeks at No. 1.
Popstar caps a fresh run of momentum
The No. 6 arrival puts an album-level milestone alongside Tinashe’s recent singles success. After “Nasty” returned her to the Hot 100 as a solo artist and “No Broke Boys” delivered her first top 40 showing there in about a decade, Popstar has now taken her into the albums chart’s top tier for the first time.
It is also the latest chapter in a career that has moved among R&B, pop and dance rather than remaining within one musical category. More than a decade after Aquarius established her previous albums-chart best, Tinashe has replaced that No. 17 peak with a top 10 debut—and her emotional reaction made clear just how much the new benchmark means to her.
