Xolo Maridueña is heading to Broadway for the first time, joining the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical Buena Vista Social Club for a seven-week limited engagement at the Schoenfeld Theatre.

The 25-year-old television and film actor will play Juan De Marcos from Tuesday, November 17 through Sunday, January 3. Chris Myers currently appears in the role.

“I’m honored to be making my Broadway debut with the incredibly talented team at Buena Vista Social Club,” Maridueña said. “Broadway has always been a dream, but getting to make that dream come true while being part of such an important and beautiful story feels like hitting the lottery twice. Come ready to laugh, cry, and shake your booty!”

The casting comes as Maridueña can be seen on the big screen in Practical Magic 2, alongside Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. He is also set to return to the world of Blue Beetle after starring in the title role. The film was the first stand-alone live-action superhero title to feature a Latino lead.

Maridueña Adds Broadway to His Screen Career

Maridueña’s first major television break arrived in 2012, when he was 10 and landed the role of Victor on NBC’s Parenthood. The ensemble included Dax Shepard, Craig T. Nelson and Lauren Graham.

He later became widely known as Miguel Diaz in Netflix’s Cobra Kai, appearing alongside Ralph Macchio and William Zabka. The series debuted in 2018, and Maridueña received Teen Choice and Young Artists Award nominations for his performance. Its sixth and final season was released in three parts and concluded in February 2025.

His other television appearances include Major Crimes, Twin Peaks, Rush Hour and Mack and Moxy. On film, he appeared in Dealin’ with Idiots, directed by and starring Jeff Garlin, with Gina Gershon and Kerry Kenney. Maridueña has also performed in the stage productions Light in the Darkness and Little Red at CASA 0101 Theater in Los Angeles.

Maridueña has additionally been announced for Netflix’s live-action manga series One Piece alongside Cole Escola.

A Celebrated Broadway Production

Buena Vista Social Club opened on Broadway in March 2025 and is inspired by true events surrounding the Cuban artists behind the Grammy-winning 1997 album. The musical follows the figures who created the music that brought the sounds of Havana to listeners around the world, framing their story around survival, second chances and music’s power.

The production has won five Tony Awards. Natalie Venetia Belcon received Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical, while Jonathan Deans won for sound design. Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck took the choreography honor, and Marco Paguia won for orchestrations. The show’s musicians were also recognized with a Special Tony Award.

The original Broadway cast recording subsequently won the 2026 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The production has also received two Chita Rivera Awards, honoring its choreography and ensemble, as well as the Actors’ Equity Association’s ACCA Award for Outstanding Broadway Chorus.

Belcon currently plays Omara, with Rick Negron as Compay, Mel Semé as Ibrahim, Jainardo Batista Sterling as Rubén, Isa Antonetti as Young Omara, Da’Von T. Moody as Young Compay, Wesley Wray as Young Ibrahim and Jesús Pupo as Young Rubén. The company also includes Renesito Avich as Eliades, Ashley De La Rosa as Young Haydee and José “Candelita” Iglesias as the Narrator.

The musical features a book by Tony nominee Marco Ramirez and direction by Tony nominee Saheem Ali. Delgado and Peck created the choreography, with David Yazbek serving as creative consultant. Dean Sharenow oversees music supervision, while Paguia handles orchestrations, arrangements and music direction. Javier Diaz and David Oquendo provided additional arrangements, and Juan De Marcos serves as music consultant.

More Limited-Run Casting

Maridueña’s engagement follows several other limited appearances involving prominent Latin artists and performers. Gina Torres, whose credits include Suits, Firefly and 911: Lone Star, will play Omara Portuondo from October 13 through November 29, 2026.

Iglesias, a Major League Baseball veteran and recording artist also known as Candelita, joined the show as Narrator on August 27. His debut made him the first Latino MLB player to appear on Broadway. Initially booked for six weeks, he extended his engagement for another six weeks because of popular demand and will remain through November 15, 2026.

New York Yankees legend Bernie Williams is also scheduled to join the production’s Tony and Grammy-winning band for six weeks, appearing from October 22 through November 29.

Maridueña’s arrival on November 17 will place his Broadway debut inside a production whose band, cast and Cuban musical story have already collected major honors across theater and recording.
