A new Sesame Street movie is being developed for Netflix as the streamer expands its preschool programming across films, series and games.
The film comes from Rideback and Sesame Workshop. The project remains in development, while Netflix has also extended its Sesame Street series deal through season 62.
The longer-term commitment comes with several nearer additions to the franchise. More episodes from season 57 are scheduled to premiere Nov. 23, following the Oct. 26 launch of the CGI spinoff Mecha Builders.
The movie and series extension form part of a wider children’s slate at Netflix, where kids and family programming accounted for 15 percent of total viewing hours during the first half of 2026, according to the streamer.
Netflix Expands the ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse’ Universe
Netflix is also building out the world of Gabby’s Dollhouse with the new spinoff series Doozie’s Doghouse, which will debut Nov. 9.
Doozie, played by Celestina Harris, is Gabby’s younger sister. While Gabby is a cat fan, Doozie’s story centers on dogs. The character was initially teased in the 2025 film Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie before making her official debut in season 14 of Gabby’s Dollhouse.
The franchise will expand again with Gabby’s Dollhouse: Makers and Bakers, a collection of holiday baking specials. Laila Lockhart Kraner, appearing as Gabby, will host the four-episode series. Netflix said Thursday that additional episodes of Makers and Bakers will follow in 2027.
Other preschool titles highlighted by Netflix include Ms. Rachel, Mark Rober’s CrunchLabs and The Creature Cases.
New Shows, Games and Low-Stimulation Programming
Another series on the way is Puppy Pirates. Its logline follows “four heroic hounds” as they sail across the high seas to retrieve items that have been lost.
Netflix is also preparing new games connected to KPop Demon Hunters, Trash Truck, Numberblocks and Danny Go!. More seasons of Bad Dinosaurs are planned as well.
Alongside those additions, the streamer has launched a “low-stimulation collection” intended to offer slower pacing, softer visuals and straightforward, predictable stories. The collection includes content from the worlds of Trash Truck, Puffin Rock and Llama Llama.
Heather Tilert, Netflix’s vice president of Animation Series, Kids + Preschool, said the company is assembling programming designed for children at different points in their development.
“We’re curating a slate of favorite-worthy series, films, and games to serve kids at every age and stage of their development,” Tilert said. “Whether that’s spending more time with Gabby and her adorable sister Doozie, meeting the crew of Puppy Pirates for the first time, or growing up alongside more Sesame Street, we’re building a place parents can feel good about.”
She added: “A place filled with great stories, beloved characters, and enriching games kids will want to come back to again and again.”
What Happens Next?
The Sesame Street film remains in development, while Netflix’s confirmed preschool schedule will begin rolling forward with Mecha Builders on Oct. 26, Doozie’s Doghouse on Nov. 9 and additional season 57 episodes of Sesame Street on Nov. 23. The streamer’s commitment to the series now extends through season 62, with more Gabby’s Dollhouse: Makers and Bakers episodes set for 2027.
