My Chemical Romance ended the closing night of their Black Parade tour with something fans have been waiting years to hear: Gerard Way openly addressed the possibility of another album.
Speaking to the crowd at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Saturday (Sept. 12), the frontman made clear that a new record is not yet an official announcement. But his remarks marked the band’s most direct public acknowledgment of a possible fifth studio album since My Chemical Romance reunited in 2019.
“Just know that, like, we’ve kind of really always wanted to make another record, so we hope that life allows us to do that,” Way told the audience. “Cause you guys, honestly, you guys kept us alive so long. You guys deserve another record. I don’t know when it’ll be. But it’ll be awesome.”
Way did not reveal a title, a recording schedule or a release date. The comments were framed as a hope, not a confirmed plan. Still, for a band that has released only one standalone single since reforming, the remark instantly became a significant moment for fans watching for signs of new My Chemical Romance music.
If it happens, the album would be the group’s first full-length release in more than 15 years. My Chemical Romance’s last studio album was 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.
Since returning in 2019, the band has released just one standalone single, 2022’s “The Foundations of Decay,” while focusing largely on touring. Their latest run has centered on The Black Parade, the 2006 album that remains central to the band’s legacy and fan mythology.
The San Antonio comments arrived at the end of a major anniversary campaign built around that record. Across the tour, My Chemical Romance have been performing The Black Parade in full, and the celebration has already grown beyond the completed run. The band has extended the project into a global stadium tour billed as The Black Parade 2026, with dates across North America, the U.K. and Europe.
The group has also recently announced a 20th-anniversary reissue of The Black Parade, which is due in October.
Released in 2006, The Black Parade stands as My Chemical Romance’s commercial and cultural high point. The album was certified four-times platinum in the U.S. and reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart. Its lead single, “Welcome to the Black Parade,” became a No. 9 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been certified five-times platinum.
That history gives Way’s remarks extra weight. The band is currently revisiting its most celebrated era onstage while also openly leaving the door open to a new chapter. But for now, the only confirmed developments are the completed tour-closing show in San Antonio, the ongoing Black Parade anniversary activity, the October reissue and the expanded 2026 stadium dates.

My Chemical Romance have not announced a new album, and Way did not offer a timeline. His statement keeps the possibility alive while underscoring that any future record remains dependent on whether the band is able to make it happen.
