Another press tour, another round of method dressing. In London this weekend, Zendaya kickstarted the Odyssey promo with co-stars Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, and her very own husband, Tom Holland. And for the big moment, she leaned into her inner goddess, channeling her on-screen character of Athena with two angelic dresses fit for the divine.
The first of her two looks, shared on Instagram by stylist Law Roach, was a vintage Trussardi maxi dress from the label’s Spring/Summer 2006 collection. The 20-year-old piece proved heavenly and powerful all at once, with its billowing silhouette and delicate featherweight pleats pinched by studded patchwork. Little spaghetti straps fell off of Zendaya’s shoulders, intentionally evoking a state of undress just like you’d see on an ancient Greek or Roman statue.
The stylist-actor duo accessorized the dress with a pair of Loubouton sandals, with high heels and a zig-zag of crystal-embellished straps. As for the star’s jewels, they turned to Tiffany & Co. and Rolex for sparkling diamonds and a striking watch.
The following day, Zendaya attended the cast’s first official photo call in a custom ivory Jacquemus gown that drew from the “essence of Athena,” in Roach’s words. As she turned, what appeared to be a pristinely tailored minimalist column silhouette transformed into a free flowing open back with a built-in headscarf and high-leg slit. It was at once classic and modern, just like her character.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Euphoria lead touched on the goddess’ domains of wisdom and warfare with a pair of decadent shield-like earrings from Baron London, crafted from 1st-millennium BC ancient discs.
Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic will hit theaters on July 17.
