2 min readIt’s been an ’80s summer for Kaia Gerber, who has been busy promoting her new series, The Shards. But while the show takes viewers back to 1981 Los Angeles, with all the big hair and vibrant party looks that defined the decade, the model-turned-actor has been keeping things a bit more minimalistic on the red carpet.
For the L.A. premiere, Gerber and stylist Emma Jade Morrison turned to Demna’s Generation Gucci—a collection that reflected the creative director’s thorough research into the brand’s history, pulling inspiration from different eras of the house. The star’s particular look was a black bralette and long matching skirt, crafted from crêpe jersey for a lightweight, breathable feel. Directly referencing the sleek silhouettes of the ’90s, the two-piece set featured a scoop neckline, a thick stretch satin waistband, and a floor-length hem.
Gerber’s hair, too, was a bit simpler than the on-screen ’do that turned her into the spitting image of her mother, ’80s icon Cindy Crawford. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor joked that she called her mom to ask if it was realistic for a teen to have styled her hair everyday before school during that time. “I remember calling my mom going, ‘There’s no way you were doing your hair like this for high school.’ And she goes, ‘Oh, no, no, no, I was.’”
This is not the first midriff-baring look that Gerber has worn to a red carpet. Earlier this summer, she attended the 2026 Disney Upfront event in a similar style, pulled from Jacquemus’s Fall/Winter 2026 ready-to-wear collection. The chic all-black co-ord was made up of a long-sleeve top and midi skirt.
