Jake Shears is stepping into one of Broadway’s most flamboyant roles, taking over as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show beginning September 11.
Shears succeeds Tony nominee Luke Evans in the role, bringing a new star turn to Richard O’Brien’s cult favorite musical at Studio 54. The production, directed by Oh, Mary! Tony winner Sam Pinkleton, is scheduled to run through February 28, 2027.
Best known as the frontman of the pop-rock band Scissor Sisters, Shears also has Broadway ties that extend beyond performing. His stage credits include Kinky Boots, and he co-wrote the score for the musical Tammy Faye with Elton John and James Graham. In 2023, he appeared as the Emcee in Cabaret in London’s West End.
His arrival adds another notable name to a revival already packed with recognizable stage and screen talent. The Broadway company features Lorna Courtney as Janet Weiss, Rachel Dratch as the Narrator, Amber Gray as Riff Raff, Kevin McHale as Brad Majors, Jimin Moon as Rocky, George Salazar as Eddie/Dr. Scott, Sherie Rene Scott as Magenta and Valentina as Columbia.
The cast also includes Renée Albulario, Anania, Boy Radio, Caleb Quezon, Andres Quintero, Larkin Reilly, Paul Soileau and John Yi.
With Shears now donning Frank-N-Furter’s fishnets, The Rocky Horror Show continues its Broadway run at Studio 54 with a new lead performer at the center of the musical’s gleefully eccentric world.
