Asa Germann is set to join Marvel Studios’ new X-Men movie in the role of Angel, with sources confirming the casting to Deadline. The move adds another key mutant to one of Marvel’s most closely watched upcoming ensembles.

Marvel representatives could not be reached for comment, according to the source material. The Hollywood Reporter was first to report Germann’s X-Men casting.

Germann, known for Gen V, had previously been rumored for the part of Cyclops. That role ultimately went to Kit Connor, whose casting was officially confirmed by Disney at D23.

A major mutant roster takes shape

The new X-Men film is being directed by Jake Schreier, whose credits in the source material include Thunderbolts* and Beef. The screenplay is by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, with Kevin Feige producing.

Disney recently used D23 to confirm Connor and several other major names for the project. The announced cast includes Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Adam Driver as the villain Mr. Sinister, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm.

Sadie Sink had already been introduced as Jean Grey in this summer’s box office hit Spider-Man: Brand New Day, according to the source material. With Germann now set as Angel, Marvel’s developing X-Men lineup continues to come into focus ahead of the film’s planned theatrical release.

Who is Angel?

Angel is Warren Worthington III, a character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The source material states that the character was created in 1963 and introduced in the first issue of X-Men in 1964.

In the comics, Warren is born with large feathered wings that allow him to fly. He initially hides his mutation before becoming part of Professor Xavier’s team. The character’s story later takes a darker turn when his wings are mutilated and replaced with metallic wings by Apocalypse, who transforms him into Archangel, a blue-skinned version of the character.

Germann’s casting as Angel marks another superhero project for the actor. He previously starred in Gen V, Prime Video’s spin-off of The Boys. He was also seen earlier this year in Scream 7.

The new X-Men movie is currently slated to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028.
